"Got seen reasonably quickly in ..."

About: St Peter's Hospital (Maldon)

What I liked

Got seen reasonably quickly in accident & emergency (there were not many other people there at the time)

What could be improved

The Nurse Practitioner who saw me was not able to recognise a severe infection in the foot. Even though the pain was intensive and the skin stretched to breaking point.

She thought it was an internal cat gut stitch that had snapped.

I had to wait a further 24 hours to see a consultant, who immediately recognised that there was an infection which, as there had been a bone graft in the foot several weeks ago was quiet a serious condition.

He also said that cat gut is not used in this way.

So the nurse practitioner needs a bit more training it would seem.

Anything else?

This is the second time that a nurse practitioner has got it completely wrong as the first time a broken bone was diagnosed as gout and treated accordingly, but this was not at St Peters but at a doctors surgery in Ashford.

I understand that we cant expect to see a doctor for everything, but I am not happy about the competence of nurse practitioners at all.
