About: Wythenshawe Hospital

What I liked

Not a single thing.

What could be improved

I came here via a blue light ambulance with my infant son who has a serious and complex heart condition and was on home oxygen therapy. I asked to go to Manchester Children's Hospital, but he was too unstable at that point but was promised a transfer asap. The doctors in A & E ignored me completely about the complexities of my sons condition and refused to contact his cardiologist in Manchester. Their egos threatened my sons life.

They then refused to contemplate a transfer as promised and insisted they could treat him as he only had a chest infection. On the ward, the nurses would not contact his cardiologist so in the end I had to contact them myself and they phoned the ward to start treating him s he should be.

After a week of substandard care, they turned his monitors off even though the night previous his heart had been beating far too fast and he was clammy. The doctor insisted he should be discharged and the discharge note did not even have the correct diagnosis of his heart condition.

The next day he was admitted to Manchester Children's where he remained for 3 weeks as he needed lots more oxygen than he would normally need, was fed by tube as he was too weak to take any milk.

I went to Wythenshawe hospital on one other occasion since and had to wait for three hours to even get a doctor to look at my son even though we went in with breathing difficulties. Again they sent him home without investigating properly and we ended up in Manchester yet again with another chest infection.

Anything else?

To say this hospital is terrible is an understatement. They are dangerous. If your child has any underlying health issues, I could never recommend the hospital to you. They ignore the parents and are ignorant to any health issues any more serious than an asthma attack.

They show how the NHS sometimes does not work and I'm their biggest fan.

My son has half a heart and they showed they have none at all.
