"Unimpressed by cleanliness in Nuneaton"

About: George Eliot Hospital - Acute Services

(as the patient),

My sister had her little girl by C-Section on the Maternity Ward, at George Elliott Hospital in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. Jan 2008

Whilst she seems to have been happy with her experience herself, she did not see what we saw....

I myself along with my husband were horrified at the dirtiness that we saw. The building itself is old.... that I understand cannot be helped but you cannot excuse for dirty wards, especially a maternity ward with vulnerable newborn babies.

I understand that wards especially maternity wards are understaffed at the moment however on the occasions I visited my sister it seemed to me that some nurses at times were hanging around chatting with not much to do.

On one occasion we waited in the hall with my own 6months old son for visiting time to come around, whilst a nurse with a lift full of foul smelling bin bags came and proceeded to pile them high next to us with all kinds of stuff falling out of these badly tied bin bags. The smell was quite disgusting, there was no mopping up afterwards of the site or lift. These were clearly bags full of rubbish, spilling everywhere for people to tread the bacteria right into the wards!

I would like to add 6months ago I had a great experience in Worcester Royal - seemed v. clean.
