What I liked
I had my Hysterectomy at Tameside 5 days ago and my whole experience couldn't have been better. I was absolutely terrified before the op, but if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have been in the least bit worried.
The staff were wonderful. So reassuring and caring. At times they were very stretched (purely due to there not being enough of them) but this never deterred them from getting the job done and doing it with a smile. They deserve a medal, as I couldn't do their job at the best of times!
I was fully informed about the whole process I would go through and the type of anaesthesia I would receive was discussed fully with me before my op - as was pain management.
Although my appetite wasn't what it normally is due to the op I had, I was disappointed as the food was delicious! It looked appetising and was very tasty. I had lamb and vegetable pie for one meal and I'm sure it was homemade. The pastry on top certainly looked like it had been. The menu was varied so there was lots of choice.
I said to my husband that I actually felt as though I'd had a stay in a hotel (apart from the obvious discomfort of the op).
I for one, am very impressed with Tameside hospital and appreciate the excellent care I received.
What could be improved
The only thing I can think of is more nursing staff. I felt sorry for them at times because they were obviously under pressure but didn't "skip" over people. They still gave everyone their full attention and just accepted that it would take longer. I commented to one nurse on the night shift that she was running around like a headless chicken and I felt sorry for her. Even then, her concern was still for patients. She said she was rushing to get the obs and pain relief done so that we could settle down for the night sooner. She didn't want to disturb us for any longer than necessary.
Anything else?
The beds are very comfortable! This in itself is invaluable, especially after a Hysterectomy! They are fully electronic, so that the position can be adjusted to suit/aid you. I feel its far more important to have this than a TV each, for instance.
