In April 2017 I had a sub-total oesophagectomy at the RVI to remove a malignant tumour.
I cannot fault the treatment I received from this excellent team in Ward 36 and the ICU.
Despite very clear briefing beforehand, the experience was more challenging than I expected, made more so by some complications, but throughout I was treated with attention, respect and dignity - even when I was hardly able to reciprocate it.
At every stage, the medical team went out of their way to keep me informed and help me share the decisions necessary.
Ongoing tests and investigations were generously and promptly initiated.
Results were relayed to me as soon as possible.
The nursing and support staff were equally friendly and considerate.
I admire them.
If, Heaven forbid, you find yourself in this situation, this is the place to be.
"Like many others, I owe them my life."
