"awful experience being transferred here from..."

About: Queen Mary's Hospital

My mother was transferred here from another hospital.

When she arrived she was told by a very annoyed nurse that there was no bed for her, and no one had told the nurse she was coming, and that she would have to go back to the other hospital.

The nurse then tutted and fumed.

My mother has dementia and was already distraught, this was awful.

Dementia patients find it hard to grasp what is being said to them, but they do pick up on body language, and my mother now says that the nurses don't like her, and she wants to leave.

In the previous hospital she was treated kindly, with respect and immense patience by the nurses and staff, what a difference in nursing between two hospitals.

The doctor was however very welcoming at Queen Mary's.

There seems to be a lack of organisation and communication between hospitals, and the staff who needed to be told my mother was coming - they clearly weren't told with enough warning, and it has been a horrible experience for my mother.

Thank you for posting your comments about your Mother's and your own experience. We are very sorry to read of the communication received from the nurse.

Please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at St. George's Hospital, the service can help put you in touch with a Manager or Matron in order to feed back what happened to your Mother. With more information an investigation can take place.

Your comments have been sent to the managers of the ward at Queen Mary's Hospital.
