"The difference in our daughter is just fantastic"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire Lanarkshire Community Services / Adult Speech and Language Therapy

(as a parent/guardian),

Our daughter was diagnosed with a high frequency hearing loss back in the beginning of 2016 aged 3 after spending the previous year trying to get her diagnosed when her speech was not coming on as you would expect.

We started attending speech and language back in 2015 in Falkirk and was eventually moved to SPL in North Lanarkshire at Condorrat Health Centre at the end of 2016 after having so much let down with Falkirk council. Our daughter attends school in North Lanarkshire but we live in Falkirk council area hence the involvement with both councils.

We just kept on getting the same run of the mill information from SPL Falkirk with no constructive help or plan for our daughter, who in the meantime was getting frustrated as she now could hear with her hearing aids but needed the help to start using language as she had missed so much time not hearing everything correctly.

When we first met Leigh she was a breath of fresh air! She took her time to tune into our daughter (who by the way is very strong willed and minded) to work out her strengths and what she was needing help with. She soon realised she had a lot of one word phrases but needed the connectives and this was to be worked on. Every time we saw Leigh she was amazing with our daughter. She gave us as parents help and a listening ear, work sheets and games and lots and lots of advice which has just brought her on leaps and bounds!

The difference in our daughter is just fantastic. We can actually communicate and she can be understood which is so nice for her. There is still days of frustration and hiccups but this is just because everything is just starting to click and is needing time. Leigh knows the games she likes and how she will get the best from her which we can't thank her enough for as she sees her as an individual not just a "one rule applies to all" which we had previously found. We can not sing her praises enough as she has just been the best thing for my daughter with her speech and our daughter loves going to her sessions with her. Leigh has helped in every way she can and we are so very grateful to her for that. Our whole family are just amazed in the difference since Leigh started to see our daughter. Leigh thank you so very much your help and love for your work shows through with the change in our little girl and we will always be thankful to you for that.

Dear Le124

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on our Speech and Language Therapy Service. I am very glad your daughter's speech and language is progressing with help from Leigh. It sounds like you are doing loads with her at home too which is helping with her development. I will pass your kind words on to Leigh and hope that your daughter goes from strength to strength!

Kind regards

Pauline
