"what the future outcome will be I have no idea"

About: Arrowe Park Hospital / Ophthalmology The Royal Liverpool University Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

It all started when I began to get floaters in my right eye I went to an optician who referred me to Arrow Park hospital eye clinic, I received a phone call from them to say I had to be referred by an optician approved by them so next day, this I did.

Went to their clinic and was basically passed from doctor to doctor for months with the eye getting gradually worse until in the end it got so bad I could not read the eye chart, then I was told I would have to see a consultant.

Further weeks went by until my appointment time was reached only to be told they were on holiday so a new appointment would have to be made more weeks went by and I finally seen them, they told me you will have to see a kidney doctor in Liverpool Royal to be referred to St Pauls as this was very urgent.

I then had to wait a further week or so to see the new doctor, when I saw them they asked why I had been referred to them as they were a kidney specialist, I explained that Consultant told me that it would speed things up if they referred me

A further week or so later a saw a doctor a St Pauls who asked why had I taken so long to come to them! When I told them the saga they asked why the consultant had not referred me to St Pauls in first place

They immediately put me on the treatment I should have been on months ago, but unfortunately it was too late and shortly after my retina became detached and I was now blind in my right eye I had to undergo emergency surgery to attach the retina back, and 9 months later further surgery to remove the oil out of the eye which was put there to aid reattachment, after that I had double vision which fortunately cleared up after a few months.

I now have poor vision in my right eye and I am due to go back to St Paul's later this month so what the future outcome will be I have no idea.

When I could finally research my condition I found that the fungal infection which I had in my right eye and was causing the floaters is a well know side affect of transplant patients leading to blindness, I being a kidney transplant patient was susceptible to it.

Arrow Park was well aware of the fact I was a transplant patient when each doctor who saw me their ask for my medication list and my medical history.

I further found out that St Pauls has a walk - in eye clinic, any of the doctors I saw could have told me to go straight to St Pauls and this would have saved my sight but none did.
