"Staff are great, system is a mess"

About: Wythenshawe Hospital / Gynaecology

I visited gynecology for an initial consultation regarding fertility problems in early March following a referral from my GP. The consultant was great and I was happy with the plan proposed; blood tests & referral to fertility specialist and Hycosy scan. I was told the scan would be in about 6-8 weeks. After 6 weeks I had not received any paperwork regarding an appointment for the scan, so phoned up to chase. It turned out that my referral had not been made and I was not on any waiting list. The receptionist I spoke to was very kind and tried their best to fit me in for the scan as soon as possible but as they can only be performed at certain times in a cycle, I had to wait until mid May for the appointment as I had missed one cycle in the interim wait.

The consultant who performed the scan was great as was the nurse present. I required a further blood test, which was taken that day at the hospital after the scan and consultation, following the blood test, my prescription would be sent for me to start treatment on my next cycle, early June.

3 weeks later, after chasing for my results twice, I have been advised that my blood test has been lost. Which means that the consultant can not send out the prescription for the treatment in time for my next cycle, which will mean another 45+ day wait until I can begin treatment. Anyone trying to conceive will know how important timing and each cycle is. It is so frustrating to have missed a window of opportunity twice down to poor systems and processes.
