"Poor Patient care"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

I phoned nhs24  as I had made cuts to my arms that wouldn't stop bleeding. I was told to attend my nearest accident and emergency department, when I arrived the nurse I spoke to at first was lovely and made me feel less anxious.

I waited over 2 hours then a senior doctor took me through to and assessment room to which they explained that we would require a clean up and dressings put on, they were also very understanding and kind.

I waited for the nurse to come in and clean up my arms, when the nurse cane in, they were very judgemental when asking questions and having no understanding whatsoever.

I was told the cut would be cleaned which did not happen, they covered them without cleaning them and told me I was free to go. It wasn't until I got to the car that I realised one of the bigger cuts was still exposed.

I felt very upset and judged by the Staff nurse which didn't not help how I was feeling when attending accident and emergency.

Dear “Merce”

I am sorry that you were unhappy with the care you received when you attended the Emergency department. If you are happy to contact the Complaints and Feedback Team, either by email to feedback.tayside@nhs.net or by telephoning 0800 027 5507 (freephone), to give further details about your attendance, your concerns will be investigated and followed up with the staff involved.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Linda Imrie, Specialist Charge Nurse
