I was transfered to the centre for a triple by pass, a repair to my heart and an added procedure of a pacemaker. I was so impressed by the standard of nursing on the wards, the dedication of the team of doctors who were taking care of me, everything to help me recover from surgery was always foremost in there minds. At times communication between patient and doctor could have been improved, this would help patients to know just when they would be having procedures, a small thing but very important if it affect yourself.
I spent a week in Harlow before going into CTC , I then stayed for another 3 1/2 weeks in the unit. Possibly the hardest event I have ever faced, as a very lacking in bravery lady I faced lots of new experiences, I did just face most of it as I had little choice if I wanted to recover and return home in better health.
I always felt safe in the hands of the dedicated staff, always a kind word especially as being in hospital for such specialist surgery can make you very emotional, to many difficult times to cope with alone.
To assure you if you ever need the specialist care in this wonderful unit, you will be safe and have expert care from the consultant , nurses and every other member of staff you will encounter. I have been home for one week, slowly I am recovering, yes my chest is sore however my wounds are healing really well and my mobility is improving everyday.
I consider myself very fortunate to be in the area that includes The Essex cardiothoracic centre. My life has been changed forever.
"Truly a centre of excellence"
