"Brilliant home birth team!"

About: St Mary's Hospital (HQ) / Maternity care

If you are considering a home birth and live in the catchment area for the St Mary's community midwifery (home birth) team consider yourself very lucky!

We had a fantastic experience with the team.

From week 37 we had all our appointments at home which was great. We were given most of the equipment well in advance to store in our home, and just had to provide a disposable lining for the pool.

We met most of the team before the due date so would have known whichever midwife was on duty.

When I went into labour, we called the team to let them know and when I was having 3 contractions of over a min long every 10mins we called again and our midwife was at our home within an hour. We then had a second midwife who joined for the delivery. They were were amazing, warm, calm, supportive and just perfect midwives.

I had an 8hr labour and my beautiful baby girl was born at 8.45am. I was given a small stitch on my sofa!

The midwives stayed until midday, helping my husband clear up the flat, putting the sheets to soak and checking baby and I were feeding correctly. And chatting. It felt we had known them forever and they were part of the family.

We then had our post natal checkups at home with the same team. This kind of continuity of care is so valuable and all but lost in today's climate of cuts.

The care we received was second to none and if I am still in the local area and still low risk I will definitely have another home birth with the team.

Thank you St Mary's!
