"First Class Emergency Dental Care"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Emergency Dental Service

(as the patient),

I had tremendous pain in my teeth, face and jaw. I rang 111 who after a telephone consultation asked someone else to call me back with an appointment for East Surrey Hospital Emergency Dental Department. The appointment was within the next hour. I arrived, registered by very efficient receptionist and was seen on time. The dentist and assistant were totally professional, efficient and caring. The room was extremely clean. Despite being in tremendous pain I immediately felt at ease and confident in the knowledge that they could help me. Within a few minute they had diagnosed a large dental abscess. I was given full instructions on what to do in the next few days and antibiotics were prescribed, which I collected from the Boots Pharmacy in the hospital. I cannot thank everyone involved enough, such a smooth process: from the initial 111 call, to the receipt of prescribed medication. This was first class treatment by the NHS. Thank you very much indeed.

Dear piphz,

It's good to hear that you were treated so promptly and effectively. I will make sure that your story, along with your appreciation, is shared with our dental team who will be pleased to know that you felt the care and service they provided to you was first class.

I hope the medication worked its magic and that the issue has now been resolved.

With best wishes,

Cathy White

Update posted by piphz (the patient)

Hello Cathy,

I would also be very grateful if you could relay my gratitude to the dental assistant who gave me the name of a local dentist she had worked with in maxillofacial jaw surgery for 10 years. Her recommendation was followed through and as the abscess lay dormant it was decided to remove the tooth. Because she had the appropriate experience the offending tooth was removed last Monday and the abscess has now gone without any further problems.

Thanks once again.

Very best wishes to you all.

Hazel (piphz)

Dear Hazel,

I will happily pass your appreciation on to the lead clinician in our dental department who will share it with her team. I'm sure the member of staff will remember you and be glad to know that all is well.

Best wishes,

Cathy
