"Long wait for appointment"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public. We have their details and will forward any comments to them, as they do not have an email address. They said…

A lady saw the hip consultant in March. They wanted her to see the anaesthetist once more, and said they would receive an appointment within the next 2 weeks. The Consultant sent the referral letters but no appointment arrived. They rang up about it, but still no appointment received. She rang again and asked to speak to a senior booking clerk. This person again promised an appointment within 2 weeks, again nothing happened. The lady rang again, mid-May, same promise!

She contacted Healthwatch Tameside, wanting to know what else she can do. Healthwatch arranged for PALS to contact her.

We are sorry you have had to contact us regarding this ladies follow-up appointment.

Our PALS and Complaints department have been in contact with the consultant’s secretary to address the provision of this ladies appointment. On Wednesday the PALS and Complaints officer contacted the lady directly with an apology and she will be receiving a letter from the Consultant regarding her Nurse-led pre- op assessment appointment as soon as this is possible.
