"Needs Improvement"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital / General medicine

Today the 24th May 2017 I had occasion to visit P.A.H. My first impressions was awful. Plastic bags in hedges, fast food cartons and even discarded clothing on the outside walkway.

The staff had no knowledge of where the maternity dept. was and they had to consult a map.

The final straw was I needed to speak to someone in the security office, guess what, they were closed.

The management need to get this sorted PDQ

Dear John,

Thank you for your comment. We invest significant resources cleaning and maintaining the site at The Princess Alexandra Hospital and so I am very sorry this has been your first impression. As you may be aware the Trust has an enviable record with regard to infection control with one of the lowest rates in England on our wards and in our departments but that does not excuse the state of the wider site.

I work here and I recognise the picture you describe, I know the environment teams work their socks off removing litter and plastic bags from hedges but they always seems to come back very quickly. So, with that in mind, in order to change this dynamic I wonder if you would be willing to come in to speak to members of staff about how those first impressions affected you and how we could work together to reduce this.

You can email us at pals@pah.nhs.uk or phone 01279 82 72 11 to provide your name and details referencing this comment.
