"Bone Scan"

About: Amersham Hospital / Rheumatology

I arrived at the hospital and parked easily, entering entrance F. It was unusual as there appeared to be no one in sight. Catching the lift to the second floor the reception desk was unattended and a man with his son was trying to work out what to do. Only when a passing member of staff stated he should ring the bell on the desk, which neither of us had spotted. Once rung a person appeared from up the corridor and was very helpful.

We were only waiting for a few minutes and I was called into the scanning room by the radiologist. This is when it began to go wrong. When you suffer from polymyalgia and fibromyalgia, along with a broken arm, it is difficult to position oneself onto the bed for scanning. They offered no help and I felt a lot of pain having to use my broken arm to try and position myself as they directed. They then grabbed my leg and twisted it to the position they required it to be. I yelled in pain and they then tied my foot to the bed frame without an apology or explanation. I did mentioned that they should have read my notes reference my ailments. When it came to me getting off the bed after the scan I had to ask the member of staff to help me as I could not get down without assistance. I even walked out without my shoes to get away from them. At no time do I feel they were friendly.

I then caught the lift to the ground floor and needed to use the disabled toilet. The floor was completely under water. I then decided to have a cup of tea and walked round to the restaurant, which was closed and empty. My husband used the drinks machine, requesting a white tea. Once poured it was tepid and black. For £1.95p a step too far.

There were no staff members to complain to so we decided to leave and hopefully never have to return to Amersham again.
