"Early Pregnancy unit and ward 2"

About: Good Hope Hospital / Maternity care

My husband and I visited the early pregnancy unit and received the most tragic news. The staff were very factual when dealing with us but lacked some compassion, it felt very matter of fact. I spent some time under the care of ward 2 as i required surgery. The staff work long hours (12.5 hour shifts) but no matter how exhausted or busy they perhaps were, they were the most caring and considerate people I had ever met. They took the time to explain everything to me and were considerate of my husband. The care I received was simply outstanding. Traditional nursing and people who took the time, who really cared. My only negative thought perhaps related to ward 2 and EPU being located in the maternity unit that was very hard but i understand this was outside of the control of the staff. It would be perhaps a little easier if there was some separation.

Dear Patient,

Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments, regarding your experience in the Maternity Unit, as I appreciate that this is a very difficult time for you and your husband.

I am pleased that you found the staff to be caring and considerate, especially under the circumstances for which you were admitted.

However I am disappointed that you felt that some of the staff lacked compassion.

I will forward your posting to the relevant senior teams, so that they are aware of your posting and your experience.

Yours sincerely

Jenny Langham
