"Unhospital like and more like ..."

About: Lancaster Hospital

What I liked

Unhospital like and more like a hotel which makes the whole visit less stressful.

Great food!

What could be improved

I was a private patient here and had a knee operation. The hospital didn't inform me until my arrival that I would be staying over night this was despite the fact that I should have been in as a day case however the procedure I ended up with meant I had to stay in. As I live over 20 miles away it was impossible to have anything brought to me.

Most of the staff especially the night staff were great. The following morning I wasnt offered any help with washing infact I was still in bed with a theatre gown on. I later found out that I had been graded as 'dependant' so I was on my own. How I could have been graded as this is shocked me as I was unable to move having huge banadages from thigh to calf. I had only just come out of theatre the night before and had very little sleep. I was made to walk up and down the stairs on crutches despite being very tearful and tierd which I thought wasn't in keeping with health and safety. When I left a friend came to get me and she was rudely spoken to when she asked about where I was. I was given a whole raft of paper work on how to look after the wounds and whilst good it doesn't replace good old communication. I was wheeled out of th ehospital in a wheelchair by the sister who didn't say a word to me.I rang them several days later to find out when I was supposed to take the bandages off as they hadn't told me. I then found out that the appointment to take out 16 staples hadn't been booked however the 6 week one had been. Had I not rang up I would have been waiting for an appt letter.

Anything else?

I've stayed in several private hospitals around the country and have never been treated like this before so much so that I no longer attend this hospital and have since gone back on the NHS at my local hospital where I have to say I've been treated with utmost care, respect and dignity.
