Although I have a chronic lung disease condition (COPD) with 25% reduced lung function. I feel great and I don’t let it hold me back.
After years of repetitive colds, chest infections and a bout of pneumonia, things had to change. I took up commute cycling and joined a cycling club in 2008 at the age of 47. With support monitoring, help & advice I receive from all staff at W.H.C. Combined with an active life style, good diet and not smoking I can now undertake the big miles. Since getting back on the bike and gradually building up the exercise, my condition has change beyond recognition. I very rarely get any of my previous bouts of sickness. My last annual results indicated I have slightly expanded my lung capacity and my condition is stable. On 6th May I ticked off my longest bike ride to date, 145 miles – 8 hours 30 mins riding – 16.8 mph average. Home (Handsworth) Sheffield to Beverly and back in the day.
Target ride; Home – Scarborough and back in the day 190 miles.
Big thanks to all at W.H.C. Together we sorted it.
