"Experience as a disabled visitor"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France

(as a friend),

I find that parking can be a nightmare as there is not enough parking spaces for disabled drivers and if you want dunts in your car park here, I ended up with 4 dunt on my car in 5 days. Getting into the entrance I had to walk through a cloud of smoke from staff, patients and visitors blocking the doors. It seems that the management do nothing even though the have an uninforced no smoking rule in place in line with current safety law.
When going to the ward I nearly got knocked over by quite a number of people including many staff walking using mobiles and not paying attention to when or what they were doing, very ignorant and dangerous. Got to the ward and saw a porter crash his trolly into equipment stored in the corridor though the ward. Nothing was done and equipment regularly blocked the way in and out of the ward and the fire extinguishers, I feel like this would be very dangerous in an emergency.

As a visitor I can make no comment on the staff off ward but from what I saw of the ward staff most were friendly and seemed fairly competent but I thought that there were some who thought the patients were an inconvenience. Each day I had to take painkillers after sitting in what we're some of the worst and most uncomfortable chairs. So even though the person I was visiting was, so far successfuly treated my experience as a disabled visitor was really bad.

Dear disabled visitor,

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry to read of your difficulties when coming to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

I have shared your feedback with both the facilities team and clinical team at the Royal Infirmary, who I am sure will be sorry to read of your difficulties but thank you again for your positive feedback regarding the ward staff.

Kind regards

Jeannette
