My son was admitted last Wednesday for a tonsillectomy at the surgical ward at RACH. This was a whole different experience for us all as normally I am a member of staff, but that day, I was a mum. I can't thank everyone enough for their care and attention towards my son and myself.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone .. described by my son as the dream team.
It was a strange experience being on the other side but everyone was so professional and treated me just like any other mum and offered fantastic support and information throughout our day.
Thank you Mr Veitch for your excellent surgical skills, bedside manner and seeing us promptly at the clinic.
Thankyou Dr Engleheardt for making my son at ease in the anaesthetic room and the excellent pain relief and taking care of him when he was asleep.
A huge thankyou to the ward Staff especially Karen and Courtney the student who looked after us brilliantly during the day ..my son described Karen as the nicest nurse he had ever met and just wanted to hug them. Also thanks to The lovely FY1 who checked on him throughout the day after his surgery and the Pharmacist who came to see us to discuss his meds before going home. Also Nurse Wendy who did our discharge and gave us brilliant post op instructions.
The theatre staff were amazing, thankyou to Fiona who was in the anaesthetic room when my son went to sleep, she put us both at ease. The scrub and circulating team behind the scenes who can sometimes get forgotten behind those closed doors did a great job.
I was relieved when I got to go to recovery and pick him up. I was pleased to see he was happy as anything after his operation and was surrounded by the wonderful recovery team Lesley, Rachael, June, Ebony and I'm sure some of the others were there too so if I haven't mentioned your name I apologise. What a wonderful caring bunch you are and I was relieved that he had been in such good hands. It was lovely to have Theatre team lead Tracey pop up to see us in the evening on the ward to check how my son was after his surgery.
He is now recovering well after a few rough days. We had to call the ward for advice at one point but Staff nurse Natalia was right on the case and gave us all the help and advice we needed.
So I'm pleased to say from the other side that RACH is doing a fabulous job with streamlined care for their patients. It truly is a wonderful hospital and the staff are second to none.
A huge thankyou from us to you
