When I was pregnant with my 1st child, I wasn't aware of Sure Start & the fantastic support & courses they run, as the midwife & health visitors didn't promote.
However, I was advised to go to the breastfeeding support session at WBYPC, which really helped me not give up. Whilst there I found out about the other groups, run by the Sure Start team, which really helped me to meet other mums & build a strong support network, as well as provide weekly meeting points.
When I became pregnant with my 2nd, I was keen to sign up to as many groups as possible, as trying to amuse 2 children under 2, is a challenge! Awareness seems much better & the timetable they provide, with what's on weekly, both by Sure Start & local churches, is really useful.
The team are so approachable & have been fantastic. We're signed up to swimming lessons, have tried baby yoga, drumming, baby massage, as well as enjoyed the Easter events & weekly bump to baby's sessions.
The Sure Start team at Rushcliffe, have been a real lifeline, in helping me in getting out of the house, meeting new people & providing my children with new experiences.
My only negative feedback, would be that there is not enough courses, to meet demand & that I am sure parents would be happy to pay a little towards attending the fantastic courses they put on, as I know budgets are a challenge.
I look forward to hearing about further courses being run, especially around weaning!
