"Why can't GPs treat more than one issue?"

About: NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde

(as a service user),

I called to get an emergency appointment for a painful throat that iv had the past 2 weeks. I have also discovered a painful lump on the roof of my mouth. I was then told by the receptionist that the doctor will only treat 1 problem as this is only a 5 minute slot. The same thing happened a few weeks ago with another member of my family attended a regular appointment with the GP and tried to explain another problem with the Dr only to be told he would have to make another appointment for this to be seen. This in my view is an utter disgrace. Why can't a doctor treat all your problems at once without causing any further distress and discomfort for the patient having to wait for another appointment. This needs to change. A lot of people I speak with are of the same opinion that the doctors have no time to spend with you and everything is rushed.

I work in a small team within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Part of the team’s role is to support patients and carers through our feedback systems which will help to improve the services we provide. On Patient Opinion, I support Lorna Gray, Patient Experience Public Involvement Project Manager, and Niall McGrogan, Head of Patient Experience Public Involvement.

Dear Trueblue72

Thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion. I am sorry to read about what you have been experiencing with your GP surgery and that you are unwell.

As GP surgeries are responsible for their own patient care, the Practice Manager in your GP surgery would be able to help you further with what you have raised here.

Best wishes
Lisa

Im afraid its still part of our NHS as a whole. Our practice seems to be the most strict in their rules. I think they are actually making it more difficult for patients instead of easier. Ridiculous.
