I was very nervous about this procedure as my sister died of oesophageal cancer age 56 years and a previous experience of day surgery elsewhere was not a good one.
I have worked as a nurse and in various management roles in the NHS all my life, and I must say that I was very impressed with the nurses and the doctor in this unit.
It must be very routine for them, but they all took time to explain the procedure fully and were very reassuring and comforting. The nurse that was with me when I had the procedure was fantastic and I only stayed calm because of them. It was over quickly and the report was provided straight away. Luckily it was all good news.
Then was offered a muffin and a cup of tea by the theatre sister.
On my way out there was someone playing the piano in the reception area which was lovely.
All round a very positive experience and thanks to everyone that works there. St Georges is near to me but I am very glad I went to Queen Mary's.
