"Unable to get medication in the form I need"

About: Royal Free Hospital

(as the patient),

Hi,

I was prescribed some medication from the Royal Free hospital, which their hospital pharmacy source from a specific supplier. The medication comes as a cream, and has been effective at treating my symptoms. I've been discharged back to my GP who can write a prescription for the same item but the medication seems to only be available as a gel from the suppliers which the pharmacies around Bromley use. The medication does not have the same effect on my symptoms and I've actually had an adverse reaction to one of the gels that was supplied from the pharmacy.

I'm stuck in a difficult position now; I cannot continue to get prescriptions from the hospital in order to get the cream I need, and I cannot find a pharmacy in Bromley which can provide it from my GP's prescription either. In the meantime my symptoms are getting worse and I may end up having to be referred back to the specialist, which will be a long, drawn out process.

I need some help as to how to get the medication I need

Thanks.

Hello,

Sorry to hear that you are having difficulty in getting the medication you need in your preferred form.

It would be best to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) who should be able to help you.

You can contact them on 020 7472 6446 or via email at rf.pals@nhs.net

Best wishes,

Hayley

Hi Hayley,

I tried that but got the response below:

Sorry you to hear you are having problems with your prescription . In the first instance you need to discuss this with your GP . Your local pharmacy may need to put an order in for stock .

The Hospital pharmacy will not fill our any further prescriptions as you have been discharged into the care of your GP.

I will try calling and speaking to someone in any case, thanks for the response.
