"Fantastic experience with CBT at Ealing IAPT"

About: Ealing IAPT

(as a service user),

I was referred to Ealing IAPT mental health services after suffering anxiety following the death of my mother. After an initial phone assessment the psychiatrist managed to get to the deeper root of the issue, which was health anxiety. I was then referred to a CBT specialist very close to my home. It did take a while to get started, however this is probably as I was deemed low risk and I totally understand that others would rightly receive treatment quicker, due to urgency,

Once my CBT sessions started I instantly noticed an improvement to my negative habits. My therapist made me feel extremely comfortable at all times and I actually looked forward to my weekly sessions with her. I worked hard to complete the weekly tasks I was given, and reaped the benefits. I always felt supported in achieving my goals and facing my problems. Most importantly, I was given a chance to talk through my problems with a professional in a safe environment, which allowed me to take greater steps towards helping myself independently also.

In my last session we discussed how to avoid relapse or what to do when it happens, which was very beneficial. I would encourage anyone feeling helpless to ask their GP for a referral to IAPT. I am so glad I that this service was offered to me; the NHS is a wonderful thing.

Dear CBT Service user

We are delighted to receive your feedback which we have shared with our service. You describe covering a lot of ground with your therapist and tackling some very difficult issues. It certainly sounds like you got the help that you needed and importantly put in the effort to reinforce what you were addressing in the session, outside of the session. This really makes all the difference. I am really glad to hear that you were made to feel comfortable in the sessions, allowing you to face problems and achieve your goals. I am as always, less glad that you had to wait a while to get started. We are doing what we can to shorten waiting times and provide some services, such as our open access Stress Control group in the meantime but ultimately there is high demand and we appreciate your understanding of this.

Many thanks for your post, it is much appreciated.

Best wishes

Thanks Louise. I didn't realise we were allowed to name therapists on here but have since seen most do, so just to ensure she gets the recognition she deserves, I dealt with Charlie :)
