What could be improved

training the doctors, a doctor took blood from my father's arm and left the restrictor on his arm causing his arm to go blue. tests to be taken from the patients to ascertain if they have norovirus. better cleaning fluids for visitors to protect them again norovirus and better cleaning of the wards and surfaces ie door handels - lifts, stairs rails I was in the hospital for 3 weeks and never once were these areas cleaned.

Anything else?

We took my father to Good hope Hospital on sunday 21st February by ambulance at 8.30 am , by 9.00pm we were still not aware if he would be kept in or if we had to take him home. We asked a nurse who said she would find out, 10.00 pm yes he would be kept in. the next morning we phoned again find out what was happening advised Dad had been moved to another area but still unaware if he was being kept in. He was placed on ward 8 in a room of 3 people - 1 a very confused gentleman, 2 a lady who was struggling to breath and had a relaxation tape constantly playing and the tv at full volume. My father never once complained nor asked for any assistance. Tuesday he was moved to a room alone he was vomiting violently and due to lack of food he was coughing up mucus. we were advised that my father was suffering from secondary cancer of the liver but doctors unable to locate where the cancer originated from. by the 3 march my father died - during that day my husband was the first to be violently ill - i followed during the night and my 2 sons followed the next day - due to complications of the norovisus my husband suffered urine retention and had a caphater - my son also suffered and was admitted into Heartlands. , We do not know if my father had the norovirus as this information was never provided but the condition he was suffering and the symptons we had were exactly the same. We are under the impression that my father did have the virus and this did shorten his life probably by weeks perhaps months we will never know.
