My father has been told that the waiting time for Cataract surgery at Wishaw General is 40 weeks, I think this is disgraceful! Apparently the reason for this is 3 ophthalmologists have left and no replacements! Why should my father be penalised for this? The delay is having a massive impact on his quality of life with him now requiring more support in view of his severely impaired vision. As a family we are deeply concerned for his well-being, he had stroke 6 years ago and is housebound and the only solace is watching TV and reading, which he is now struggling to do.
We are now looking to go private for this treatment as he cannot wait 40 weeks for this operation. It is extremely unfair and disappointing that we have to consider this option.
I look forward to a response.
