My experience of Day Surgery at the City Hospital was as good as it gets. Mr Neuman said my op would be at 8.30 a.m. We arrived at 7.30 a.m. - shoulder operation on time even after problems with anaesthetic (my veins disappeared) I was discharged at 1.30 p.m. and home by 2 pm how good is that. My shoulder was attached with an anaesthetic pump which was removed 2 days later and my treatment has been the best so far.
But...
My Mother was an emergency case at the Queens Medical Centre two days after new year (she is in her late 70s) We arrived at 1p.m. she waited for a bed in the Cardiac A & E until 10.30 p.m. when a bed was found for her. She fully understood the problem of a bed but the trolley was so uncomfortable.
Can anything be done about this? I know this is not a isolated case as I have been told about patients waiting on trolleys for several hours - Can these be made more comfortable and more of an attempt be made to keep patients warm?
