"I get frustrated when my leave is cancelled at the last minute"

About: St Andrew's Healthcare Birmingham / Hawkesley

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I have been in this hospital for five years and it is alright. The staff treat me alright and involve me in my care plans and talk to me. The team are good and are approachable and I get to activities sometimes but sometimes I get a date to go home or to go out into the community and they change the date at the last minute because they haven't got staff or a driver. They change it at short notice and I am very frustrated and get angry because I look forward to it. They should sort this out.

Thank you for taking time to make a comment. I am really pleased that your experience of care planning has been a positive one and that you feel that the staff are approachable.

In relation to leave, I understand your frustration, and staff work hard to ensure that leave is not cancelled regularly. When I am made aware that a leave may have to be cancelled, I work hard with all of the wards on site to try and facilitate leave. However, due to the considerations of all of the wards there are sometimes times when it is necessary to cancel or postpone leaves. At this time, we will try and give you as much notice as possible, and to rearrange the leave.

If you wish to discuss this further, please talk to your care coordinator or other member of staff on the ward.
