"Very upset with maternity care at Heartlands Hospital"

About: Heartlands Hospital Solihull Hospital

(as the patient),

I had a baby at Heartlands in November 2006. It was a planned caesarean section as I am always a high risk pregnancy.

I was unhappy with the quality of care both for the hospital stay and the antenatal care. I felt very unsafe, got conflicting advice, and felt I was treated like a cow having its calf rather than a human.

The nursing staff I saw seemed far too busy having chats about various things throughout both the day and night to care for the many mothers and babies on our ward who needed their attention.

My baby was in the neonatal intensive care unit for 3 weeks. I felt I was treated in a totally unprofessional manner by the staff I saw, including the consultant I was under (or multiple consultants as I saw several), nurses, and the hospital staff at delivery.

The hospital itself also appeared to be filthy. There was blood on the floor the entire time I was there: spots of blood that were never cleaned up for the whole five days I was there.

Even two months later I am still as angry and upset about my experience as I was then.
