"Miscarriage - handled without care"

About: Northwick Park Hospital / Gynaecology

5 weeks pregnant I went into A&E on Friday 5th May with pain on one side. I was referred to the gynecology department and treated by a Dr who kept me in for observation until Sunday 7th May. The plan was to keep me in check my hcg levels and make a decision on what it could be. The Dr gave me hope that it might just be nothing, right up until the Sunday morning when i last saw them.

On Sunday afternoon I expected to see the same Dr again, who had been very careful in their approach to my case. Unfortunately, a different Dr was to deliver the final result. The Dr came to my bed, on an open ward, stood at the end of my bed, with a loud voice, and asked quite jovially if my family were ok to be there. They then - again quite jovially - gave me the news that I could go home, and I could eat I wouldn't be going into surgery. Then very lightly the Dr said - you've been miscarrying so you have to come back and get a blood test. The whole thing lasted 3 minutes, and I was in complete shock. The Dr then left me there feeling exposed, my news was out to the entire ward, and I watched as they then proceeded onto a family across from me, where the Dr closed the curtain and gave them the dignity and privacy every doctor should give a patient being given sensitive news. I am absolutely embarrassed, shamed, distraught, about the miscarriage and the complete disregard for my feelings as a first time mother.
