I have just returned from Addenbrookes fracture clinic where I have had my left wrist set in plaster. The entire experience was amazingly fast and efficient. I had a 9 a.m appointment and was diagnosed and plastered up and out of there by 11a.m. Terrific.
However I felt that the woman receptionist on the desk at the Fracture Clinic was the kind of wooden appalling character the NHS does not need.
Me: Good morning
She: Yes
Me: I am a couple of minutes late I hope I haven't lost my place in the queue?
Silence
Me; Is there anywhere I could get a newspaper to read?
Her; Yes
Me: Where might that be?
Her: Out of there turn left
Me: Thank you
Silence
A man came in and asked if she knew if his wife was there
She said; "I see two hundred people every day here, don't take any notice of anyone's names. Have a look round. If she's here, you'll see her"
And turned back to an animated conversation with her friend.
"Fast, efficient service let down by appalling attitude of receptionist "
