I had an operation on my teeth to remove 5 broken top teeth and 2 bottom teeth on either side of my mouth. The staff were very pleasant but I was obviously quite traumatised. I left the hospital in complete agony with no pain relief and told to take paracetamol and ibroprofen. I was in agony for at least 5 days and eventually saw my own dentist who then dressed a dry socket. My mouth is still healing now, I understand it takes a while but the whole experience has left me feeling that the care should be given upon leaving..painkillers prescribed. I ended up taking far too many tablets and not caring if I died, my mouth felt like I had been kicked by a football boot with studs in it.
When I first went to see the consultant they said I didn't need general anesthesia because it was just a matter of flicking the teeth out, this is obviously not the case and I think I should have been in hospital for at least the night and maybe more.
I am very fortunate that my parents cared for me and my child and my employers were so understanding.
I feel let down I put my complete trust in Musgrove and the system left me in total agony.
I am at last able to go with 2 painkillers now. My appointment wasn' the end of April but this l...it is now May.
I wonder if the surgeons know how much pain is involved upon leaving the hospital and this should be discussed. I would of happily paid for strong pain relief
