The doctors I saw before my operation were very good and communicated with me well.
However, the conditions on the recovery ward were not. I had been in theatre for well over an hour and started coming around from the general anaesthetic on the recovery ward to the screams of a child in a pushchair.
My head felt terrible and when my partner asked a member of staff if the mother, who was not a patient, could take the child out as the noise was very disturbing in an enclosed space, my partner was told that 'things could never be ideal'.
It went from bad to worse.
I felt intimidated by the recovery ward staff and was not treated with dignity.
I felt rushed and there was no warmth or kindness.
My partner was belittled when she tried to get some peace for me, and was not spoken to with respect. There was no apology.
We then drove back to Oxford.
Terrible experience.
