I had my op & discharged the same day. It was for the removal of a intramedullary tibial nail which had been in situ for 28yrs. It had to be removed to allow further surgery in approximately 6wks.
It was carried out by Mr Kankate & his team who literally went that extra mile to complete it.
The whole procedure was fully explained including any possible risks, all questions answered.
Once returned to the Ward ( 12b ) at Wycombe Hospital again, the care & attention I received was second to none. the. The nursing & auxilliary staff were all courteous &very professional in all the many chores they carried out. (I must add the ward was kept spotless. Well done Cleaners! ).
I have, back in the 70s worked several years in a hospital myself, as a clerk & receptionist in both an X Ray & Path lab, so you could say I have seen both sides of the coin having had numerous "ops" & I know through experience patients are often ready to complain but not so to praise.
So many things have changed over the years mainly for the better (apart from the overwork & underpay) which I do not think will ever change.
I very much liked the fact that obs are carried out hourly during the day & two hourly through the night so if you feel you have a query you know you are not going to have to wait that long before seeing a nurse, freeing them up to carry out their many other tasks an saves the endless noise from buzzers going off.
All I can add now is that I shall forever be in praise of our N. H. S. As without them, their knowledge patience & skill I would not be alive today. My heartfelt thanks to you all. I shall have no fear going in for my next ops.
