I experienced my first miscarriage in May 2016 and attended the Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) at UCH.
The first scan they were unsure and sent me away for a week so they could scan again and be certain I was experiencing a miscarriage. On return a week later it was confirmed. The staff were so empathetic and did not rush us out the door like I've heard from other women's experiences in different hospitals.
Unfortunately, my body wouldn't dispose of the foetus naturally and after 6 weeks and weekly scans, the team kindly booked me in immediately for surgical management of the miscarriage. They recognised that not only physically my body couldn't cope with the blood loss but mentally it was exhausting me. They never once made me feel like I was being annoying especially with answering all my many questions.
Unfortunately in April 2017 we had an early scan to find we had lost another baby. The staff empathetic to our previous experience allowed me to make an informed choice to have the surgery as soon as possible. They used all the right language during this difficult time as to not upset me further.
They gave me plenty of information on miscarriages, trying again and support networks to cope. My husband and I could not speak more highly of the staff and how they treated us, professionally but with the empathy required for such a sensitive situation.
"with the empathy required for such a sensitive situation."
