"Had no contact after echocardiogram"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Cardiology (Ward 4)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to wishaw general with severe pains in my chest which I was informed was due to atrial fibrilation, in actual fact I later learned from my GP it was atrial flutter this caused me some annoyance, long and short of it is, I was stabilised and sent home, there was no follow up from wishaw general until 9 weeks later where I returned to have an echocardigram done during this 9 week period I had severe pains in my chest at least twice a week which was extremely frightening as people with atral flutter are at high risk of heart attack or stroke I am living with a pulse rate of between 145 and 160.

I feel like I have been left to rot by the cardiology dept of wishaw general everyday that goes by could be my last a morbid thought I know however, this is what I am living with, the most annoying part of my story is atrial flutter can be fixed very quickly by cardioverion Pharmacalogicaly or by defibrillation the problem for me is I have no Idea when I will see a cardiologist who can deal with this,as I understand it defibrillation is a 30 minute procedure with atrial flutter in my case has a 95% success rate, everyday that goes by is damaging my heart wishaw general cardiology department still have had no contact with myself after my echo two weeks ago

Dear afl

I am so sorry to hear of your experience whilst under the care of our Cardiology Department here at Wishaw General Hospital and the delays that you have mentioned in follow up care, at what must be a very anxious time for you.

Further information would be helpful to ensure that appropriate action can be taken to support the care that you require and therefore could I ask that you contact Yvonne Ross our Patient Affairs Manager on 01698 366558, with more information to allow us to investigate and be able to feedback to you.

Kind Regards,

Faith
