What I liked

I called Barndoc re symtoms relating to kidney failure. The nurse spoke to me for 15 minutes where I explained all on Saturday morning. Then the doctor called me half an hour later. I again explained all for another 15 minutes. i was asked what I wanted them to do. I asked them to refer me to hospital for urgent investigation by a kidney specialist. I was told that could not bedone. What is the point of week end out of hours services? NHS is the best system in the world. However, the system of no or very poor service for 2 out of every 7 days a week for 52 weeks a year is a fundamentally flawed system costing billions of pounds. Drastic re-think and re-engineering of the entire care system is needed.

What could be improved

GP surgeries should operate on a 7 days a week basis, not 5 days a week basis. Illness does not know it is weekend when it falls on you. It is like fire, or theft or crime. It can happen anytime. NHS can spend its £100 billion more wisely.

Anything else?

The elite and the more well off should have a more caring attitude to the less well off. They could take out private medical insurance in much bigger numbers like in Italy, Germany, Spain, etc. so that NHS has more time for the less well off.
