"I was on the gynaecology ward ..."

About: Good Hope Hospital

What I liked

I was on the gynaecology ward for 3 days, following a hysterectomy. The nursing and uaxilliary staff were all friendly and helpful, and answered buzzers promptly. There was an elderly lady in the same bay who was slightly confused. The staff assisted her to wash and ear, and took her to the toilet regularly. I felt in control of my care and felt that I was fullu informed. I was offered pain relief when I requested it. There was a good choice of meals offered and water jugs were refilled regularly.

What could be improved

At the time of my admission, there had been an outbreak of norovirus. There was no clear policy on visiting, and on the 3 occasions my family visited they were told different things eg. that only one person could visit, that children could visit in the day room or that children could not visit at all. This resulted in confusion for my family.

Car parking charges are also very high.

Thank you for leaving such positive feedback regarding your stay with us. Unfortunately it does sometimes become necessary to restict visiting to the wards with very minimal notice. This is only ever to protect patients and visitors.
