INTERNET

The internet access issue has been a problem on a number of wards. We have obtained laptops from IT which unfortunately have not been configured to enable them to access the internet. We have asked the IT department to complete this work so expect to have the laptops working as soon as possible. In the meantime internet access is available in the OT Department.

PAYPHONES

Also the issues with the payphones have been occurring for several months. I understand that the telecoms department have tried to fix the issues but have been told by external suppliers that the internal cabling is inadequate. The good news is work on the internal cabling has started and should be completed very shortly. I will update you on these technical issues as soon as they have both been fixed.

AMOUNT OF CD's/ DVD's

As a secure hospital we have a policy of routinely searching patient areas and we have to limit the amount of time that takes to no more than half an hour. The current 'no more than 30 CD's or DVD's' rule is based on having to search through each case for prohibited items'. I have discussed this with the Ward Managers group. We feel that the number of cases needs to remain but if the actual CD's/DVD's can be placed in be placed in see through books/ wallets in which both sides of the disc can be clearly seen then that would be a way of allowing staff to search through quickly.

We need to re -word our procedure to allow for this. We would also like to have some idea of acceptable products that we can advise you on before any changes are made. We will get back to you in the next few days on that issue.

Thank you

Gregg

Hello, just to update you

The Internet on wards was planned to be completed this week however the recent international cyber attack has meant that IT are focused on securing the networks. We have been told that they will be completed as soon as possible.

The Procedure on the amount of CD's in rooms has been changed from 30 to 50 CD's providing they are kept in transparent storage wallets.

The work on internal wiring has been completed so the payphones should work. Any further problems in future will be much easier to repair.

Thanks

Gregg

Could I just say what a positive outcome from the Patients posting. I would encourage the use of Care Opinion, it's excellent.
