"My son's visit to GP OOH"

About: Glenrothes Hospital NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a parent/guardian),

My son's breathing was deteriorating quickly throughout the night. I called NHS 24 at 1. 45am, the call handler was very good and so was the Nurse I spoke to. I received a call back at 2. 15am to say we had an appointment at 2. 50am at Glenrothes Hospital, (NHS Fife) for my son to be seen. We were taken quickly when we arrived and the Nurse (Donna) examined my son and quickly administered steroids and oxygen. He was diagnosed bronchiolitis and we went home. I would have preferred a G.P to visit my son at home but it was all dealt with very quickly which was helpful as I was a very worried and anxious mum in the middle of the night.

Here at NHS 24 a positive patient/caller experience is what our dedicated staff strive to achieve at all times. We work very closely with our partner Health Boards to ensure that patients receive the required care in a timely manner. Your story is an excellent example of this. I will share your story more widely with our staff here at NHS 24 so that they can appreciate how they contributed to your overall excellent experience. I am sure my colleagues within NHS Fife will also be pleased to see your positive comments about your treatment as well.

Thanks again for sharing your story on Patient Opinion. It was a pleasure to receive.

Dear H's mum,

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback positively on your experience as a service user of Fife Primary Care Emergency services using patient opinion.

This feedback is valuable to us as a service to evidence the safe, patient centred care we deliver. I will share your comments with the individual nurse involved and also the team as a whole.

I am delighted that your son's needs were assessed and managed safely and appropriately and hope that he is back to full health soon.

Kind regards,

Lisa Cooper
