"Delay in asthma diagnosis"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Respiratory medicine

(as the patient),

Hi i went to the queens medical centre due to having a bad cough and waking up choking as well as coughing at work constantly (work in call centre). i was advised this may be reflux by consultant who gave me tablets to try, if that didn't work they would look into barium meal. i went back 2mths later and saw a different Dr, who hadn't looked at my notes properly so didn't realise it was my 2nd visit. what she had seen was that i was divorced and didn't have children which i desperately want, so i was advised that things in life do not go as we planned and effects us in different ways etc and this cough will go on its own even though I've had it a yr and half. i left feeling like i was 10yrs old rather than the 40yrs that i actually am. i wasn't happy with this and due to coughing fit and being out of breath a friend lent me her asthma inhaler as i was in a state, this seemed to help. i went back to Dr's and after a few tests i have been diagnosed with asthma. just goes to show you can know your body more than a Dr.
