I was suddenly taken ill with pneumonia. The Doctor my wife contacted on 111 said to send for an ambulance immediately, which arrived very promptly. By now I was well out of it, and the paramedics painstakingly did whatever was necessary to stabilise my condition before we set off for Tameside A&E. On reception there, the Doctor, a lovely Chinese gentleman told me of his educational experiences at school in China (I am a retired teacher) and made me smile while he carried out all the tests needed, Eventually a bed was found for me on MAU Bay 6, and there I was, attached to saline drips and having liquid antibiotics pumped into my wrist. I felt so much calmer now that treatment had begun.
The Staff who I came into contact with, of all grades, were so professional and kind. There were a number of elderly men on the ward suffering from dementia, and the patient and sympathetic way they were dealt with was an education.
I spent two nights on the ward, and am now recovering at home. Thank you so much, everyone for looking after me so well.
