About: Lymington New Forest Hospital

What I liked

I was a patient in January for day surgery and it was a pleasant experience!! The surgeon and Nursing staff made it all so easy and relaxing. My father had been admited between Christmas and new year and the same positives could be said about the assesment unit. A good atmosphere in trying and difficult conditions.

What could be improved

Car park charging needs sorting, whilst my Father was in it worked out quite expensive and having to pay when I went in as a patient was odd!

Anything else?

The hospital is a good model for the rest of the NHS I suggest the powers that be come and visit and see how it should be done.

Thank you for your kind comments. I will ensure that these are passed on to the staff on the Day Surgery unit and in Medical Assessment.

Regarding the system and tariff at Lymington Hospital. Thorough research was carried out into other hospital tariffs around the country. In order to ensure that the car park obtained an optimum turn around of spaces, an hours parking needed to be retained. The Trust took the view that a nominal fee of one pound for the first hour would be appropriate. Our volunteer groups, including representatives from The League of Friends of Lymington Hospital and New Forest Hospital Radio agreed that the tariff for the new pay and display system was a fair price for our visitors and patients.

The maximum fee of eight pounds needed to be set to deter other people on the industrial estate using our valuable car parking spaces as has been the case when no charges were applied.

We understand it is sometimes difficult to predict how long your stay will be at the hospital for a particular appointment but can assure you that we have taken the patients and visitors views and believe we have a safe and fair system operating in the car park.

We do operate a concessionary system for all patients who will be receiving regular treatment and who are required to visit the hospital on a frequent basis.

I hope this provides an answer to your concern over the car parking fees. If you wish to discuss further please contact our Patient Experience Officer on 01590 663089.
