About: Alexandra Hospital

What I liked

I attended The Alex just after Christmas for a knee arthroscopy and found the whole experience to pretty much fantastic! Great hospital, nice clean spacious private rooms and great staff. I was seen by a Physio, Anaesthetist and my Consultant Surgeon pretty much one after another. My surgery was explained in a clear and concise way. The care was second to none and all the staff were polite, informative and courteous, all bar one nurse .The nurse came into my room after midnight (12.30am ish) woke me up abruptly and told me to get up and get dressed to go home as soon as possible. The nurse was abrasive and lacked any customer care skills to say the least. The nurse told me that if I stayed the night I would be charged for it and would have to pay out of my own pocket even though I was an NHS patient. I was still very groggy from the general and couldn't speak clearly or even get myself dressed. It was only until a Ward Sister came down to do therounds that I was told to get back into bed and sleep of the General and I'd be discharged the following morning. Ward Sister apologised to me for this nurse and said they were wrong to say what they did, but I got no apology from the nurse on Stafford ward.

What could be improved

To not wake very groggy patients in the early hours of the morning and bully them into getting dressed and being sent home when the patient is clearly not able to do so safely.
