"Very disappointed"

About: Highfield Hospital

I have a very severe medical condition,which can be resolved with surgery. My very first consultation was in October 2016, my first surgery was in December 2016. The consultants findings,were that my condition required a more specialised consultant. I was then referred to a different consultant.

I waited three months for my next appointment/pre-op date, when I hadn't heard from them, I telephoned their medical secretary, to find that the second consultant I had seen had left Highfield to work abroad. I was then given another date and consultant to see. I received a letter to a few days before my appointment to let me know the third consultant was off work sick. My condition is now really affecting every aspects of my life. I feel very let down and frustrated,as it is now affecting my job.

We take patient feedback very seriously, I understand our Director of Clinical Services has responded to through the BMI complaints procedure.

We have long standing Consultants at Highfield Hospital, the majority of the Consultants work at the local NHS Trusts. We had two Gynae Consultants who worked at Highfield that chose to work abroad for a year and unfortunately this was not something that was under our control. We follow the local protocol for patients to be referred back to their GP by a Consultant if they require a more specialised Consultation, the GP will then refer patients to the most appropriate Consultant in the Trust.

It is very unfortunate that the next appointment scheduled for you was with a Consultant that was off sick.

Delays in getting a resolution to a medical condition are taken seriously and I know we work closely with the Trust to ensure patients are seen as quickly as possible.
