"Distraught at waiting for treatment"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Imaging Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Trauma & orthopaedics (wards 26, 27, 61 & 62 ) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow

(as the patient),

After a discectomy two years ago, I was left in debilitating pain and had poor mobility. My surgeon had another MRI scan done, this revealed that I required further surgery, I had a spinal nerve block to help ease the pain while waiting or further surgery, at my clinic appointment my surgeon advised me that he was leaving and that my case was referred to the Queen Elizabeth university hospital.

I received a letter saying my name was added to the list and that I should receive surgery on or before June last year. I contacted  to advise that I was going on holiday  to which I was told I would need to either cancel my holiday or my surgery as the holiday was booked for my husbands birthday. I had no option but to cancel my surgery.

I then received a letter saying my procedure would be carried out on or before mid September. This date came and went and still no surgery, I made numerous calls . I then received a letter for my pre op assessment. My pre op was carried out and I was given a letter for my admission date and I was just to see my surgeon. After introductions, the consultant  stated that they weren’t happy to go ahead with surgery until  a contrast MRI scan had been done. After the scan was done, I was told the results would be sent to the consultant that day. After a few days I called to ask if the consultant had looked at my scan, I was told that I was being sent to the pain clinic, I was absolutely distraught, after a few hours I called back and was told that I could get an explanation why they weren’t doing further surgery. At that appointment it was explained that further surgery wouldn't help my pain as I had severe nerve damage. I was then referred to the holiday clinic and recommended that I have a spinal nerve stimulator implant fitted, but advised there is a waiting list for the clinic, I asked could I have another spinal nerve block to help with my pain in the meantime. This was agreed and I was advised that I would be added to the waiting list for this to be done.

I received a letter stating that my procedure would be carried out on or before June this year.   At last, there was a light at the end of the tunnel as my pain is very debilitating. I phoned to ask if the waiting list was running on time only to be told that it wasn't and was running at 30 weeks, I'm absolutely distraught at the way I've been treated, not only am I suffering due to the pain and poor mobility this is affecting my mental health, due to this I have lost my job, my home and my independence, its disgusting the way I have been treated, I have made a complaint to the NHS complaints department but haven't had a response to this either.
