"The waiting time was unacceptable"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a relative),

The waiting time we experienced after calling for an ambulance was unacceptable.

My mum fell off a chair and broke her shoulder. We called 999 for emergency help as we could not move her in case of causing further damage, we had to leave her on the cold floor where she had fallen. We waited 7. 5 hours for two paramedics to arrive in a car. After they had examined my mum one of the paramedics phoned his manager to request an ambulance as there was no way they could get my mother in their car, it was clear she would need hospital treatment.

We then had to wait a further 40-45 minutes for the ambulance so that my mum could be taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

I cannot fault the paramedics or the staff at the hospital, they were kind and caring, my mum was treated very well. The issue I have is the far too long a wait for the ambulance.

Dear Gust42,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

I am sorry that there was a delay in an ambulance attending your mother, but I am pleased that the care your mother received from the crews was of such a caring nature.

The detail you have provided here has been anonymised, so I am unable to locate the details of the 999 call and susequent ambulance attendance, so I cannot directly comment on the event.

However, we would welcome the opportunity to look into the events surrounding the ambulance attending; if you would like us to do this may I ask you to contact our Patient Experience Team on either patientexperience@swast.nhs.uk or 01392 261 585 and a member of the team will be able to provide information on the next steps.

Thank you, again, for taking the time to share your story with us.

Sharifa
