"Long waiting and Disappointment at A&E and EPU"

About: Croydon University Hospital / Accident and emergency Croydon University Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I am pregnant and I was not feeling well because of Vomitting, stomach pain and bleeding/spotting. I been to the EPU at Croydon University Hospital around 9. 30l. When I reached, the receptionist said they couldn't see any more patients as they have reached their capacity. So I been to A&E, they have done the regular stuff and asked me to wait. I was waiting their for good 5hrs. After that long waiting, a staff from A&E took me(and other pregnant patients to EPU. In EPU we were waiting for another 4 hrs for nothing. In between the staff were discussing about doctors shortage. But in between some ladies had prebooked scan appointments, and they have done that appointments at correct time. But they didn't do anything and asked us to come next day if we want. All my day was spoiled in that hospitakl for nothing. It is negligence on vulnerable women. They could have arrange a doctor e to see us atleast. They were just complaining each other..( All day we were sitting there and they haven't even offered a drink for us. My previous delivery was in another hospital and they were very helpful throughout the pregnancy. But this is a disappointment.

Dear Laura

I am sorry that you had a poor experience. We take all feedback seriously whether it is good or not. The hospital aims to keep waiting times to a minimum and I can understand your frustration and disappointment. Please get in touch with our Patient advice and Liaison Service (PALS) who will be able to investigate this matter further for you.

Our PALS office may be contacted by telephone on 020 8401 3210 or by email at ch-tr.pals@nhs.net. The office is open during the week from 9am to 4:45pm.

Kind Regards

Hilary Frayne
